This large scale topo map shows the general location of where the Lazy Mountain rope tow once operated (further research is needed to determine the exact site).

This 1995 topo map shows the west slopes of Lazy Mountain.  We assume the rope tow was in one of the clearings that borders a road.  This map will be updated when research identifies the location of the rope tow .

We skied this area a few times when it was open.  The Borough still labels this parcel on their maps as the “Lazy Mountain Winter Sports Area”.  At the end of Huntley Road the road curves right and drops down the hill a little ways, this portion of the road is North Mountain Circle but I don’t know if it’s labeled.  If you look on your bottom topo map the road curves right off the section line and then peters out into two trails.  The parking lot was/is where these two trails start.  The parking lot is now used for the trail up Lazy Mountain and the Morgan Horse Trail that runs east along the base of the mountains.  The Horse Trail will also lead you to a trail that accesses Matanuska Peak.  If you look at your other topo map the area was due south of your red oval just outside of it at the end of the little stub of a road.  When you parked you were at the top of the ski hill (a little unusual I would expect).  The topo map shows the elevation at the top would have been about 200 meters above sea level.

I’ll look for photos but I’m skeptical that I’ll find any.

"At one time, the Mat-Su Borough established a ski lift and warm-up hut at the Lazy Mountain Recreation area. It has since been dismantled"
