Location: Chugach National Forest, Southcentral Alaska.  10 sites were proposed as potential ski areas: Glacier/Winner Creek, Seattle Creek, Tincan Mountain, Grandview, Manitoba Mountain, Summit Lake, Johns Creek, Cooper Lake, Lost Lake, Snow River.
Type of Area: Proposed downhill skiing areas.
Dates of Operation: Studied in 1982 & 1986 but never built.
Who Built It?: Never built.

History: In 1982 the Chugach National Forest commissioned a study that produced  the document: "Demand and Opportunity for Alpine Skiing On the Anchorage District of the Chugach National Forest".  And in 1986 a study produced the document: "Evaluation of Winter Sports Sites on the Chugach National Forest for Alpine Skiing Potential".  Maps and excerpts from this document are displayed below.

In 1982 a ski area site at Grandview, in the Kenai Mountains between Portage and Moose Pass, was proposed.  You can see on the map where the lifts were scoped to be located at this railroad only accessible ski area.  
     
Manitoba Mountain, Summit Lake and Johns Creek proposed ski area sites.

Left: A potential ski area site was once proposed (1986) to the east of Cooper Landing, with access via the Snug Harbor road.

 

Right: Also in 1986, two potential ski area sites were suggested north of Seward - one west of the highway in the Lost Lake area.  The other site was east of the highway in the Snow River drainage.
